Wuerl Legal Nurse Consulting, LLC

Our Firm

We are Geriatric Nurses with over 30 years of experience in the field.  Since Debbie opened Wuerl Legal Nurse Consulting, LLC in September 2005, we have been instrumental in assisting Plaintiff and Defense Personal Injury Attorneys in the Midwest and in Florida win large settlements for patients who were injured in Nursing Home, Wrongful Death, Motor Vehicle Accidents, and Slip and Fall situations.  Here's a snapshot of two recent cases we worked on!

A 29 year old plaintiff was broadsided and landed in a ditch.  She sustained a hip fracture and severely injured her knee in the crash.  Her orthopedic surgeon told her she would likely need her first hip replacement and knee replacement 10 years following the accident.  We anticipated she would probably require several joint replacements in her lifetime because the prostheses often last between 10-15 years and she was young at the time of the crash.  The jury awarded her with over $250,000, based on our cost projections for one hip replacement and one knee replacement.

Another plaintiff sustained a ruptured spleen and injured her left arm when she was T-boned in a Motor Vehicle Accident.  She required massive surgery to both areas, therapy for her shoulder and arm, and ongoing injections for the rest of her life to replace the immunity normally managed by the spleen.  We projected costs for the additional medical needs including the life long injections necessary for the attorney who hired us.  Her case settled for over $350,000 in mediation.

What makes us qualified to work on such cases?
  • Since starting our nursing career, it was our responsibility to 1) know what's going on with our clients through a thorough review of the medical record, and 2 ) continuity of care by communicating with the nurses working the other shifts.
  • This included doing a head to toe assessment and alerting the attending physicians of any changes in condition, even when only subtle changes were noted.
  • We assessed our clients, planned their nursing care, intervened appropriately and evaluated the results of our teaching and other things we did for them and their family members.
  • As Legal Nurse Consultants, we also do that for you, and we inform you which injuries are related to the case – and which are not!
  • We interact with many healthcare professionals on a daily basis.  So, when you need an expert, we can guide you to the type of expert you may need for your case, and have access to names of several professionals from around the country who may be able to fill that need.
We are members of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants and the National Alliance of Legal Nurse Consultants, which gives us access to continuing education and support of many nurses around the country who are willing and able to offer advice, when necessary.
